Animals For Life - All About the Owner

I realise that things have progressed forwards within the past year and a half (almost) and I have secured a lovely customer base, which I am very appreciative of. therefore, with so many new customers and individuals following my social media posts, I thought it would be best to introduce myself in a fresh way.

I began my studies after school at an amazing well established college in Kent called Hadlow College. Here I studied a National Diploma in Horse Management; the main reason being was that I loved horses and still do. I really miss working with them on a daily basis but don't miss finding straw on the underside of my jodhpurs!

Here, I gained a MMD (Merit, Merit, Distinction) and had the first real taste of independence and freedom. Some of my lectures included, Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation, Business Studies, Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Equine Nutrition and Health, Youngstock Training and The Principles of Equitation (Riding).

After Hadlow College, I made the bold move to head towards Dorset and study at Kingston Maurward College, away from the majority of my family. (Many of my new customers and followers on social media will know exactly where this college resides and in a stunning location). During the course I studied topics such as Anatomy & Physiology, Animal Nutrition, Animal Welfare, Animal Legislation, Epidemiology, Health & Welfare, Anthrozoology Study of Human/Animal interaction or HAI for short) and Zoo Conservation Biology.

I completed my degree in two stages (not particularly commonplace but some courses/ establishments do offer this option), taking a year out between finishing my Foundation Degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare and completing my BSc (top-up) Animal Behaviour and Welfare (with honours). My final grade was a lower division 2nd Class Honours. For me that final year was a very big challenge due to the extreme situations that were happening in my personal life. I am proud to have got a complete degree. My strongest subjects which achieved were in Animal Welfare, Animal Nutrition , Zoo Conservation Biology I received high pass/ Merit grades, and Epidemiology, Health & Welfare which I achieved a Merit grade.

After my degree, my main aim was saving up for a Flat to call my own and this took my attention away from animals and animal related jobs and onto working two jobs, which on some days I completed 12+ hour long working days. I achieved it though through grit and determination. Here I am loving my own little flat and looking forward to the next home (however, not necessarily the moving part).

In 2022, I gave my business it's final big shot, it was a make and break situation. I made it and finished the first year in business in a strong position. I could not have done it without the support of family, friends and most importantly working business relationships.

My aim for the future is to go full time in the next 2-5 years. My initial aim was within 2years, however, due to the way the financial market has been and is currently, I am keeping things gradual and not taking a huge risk. I hope within that time to also start employing a team member on a small part time basis to assist me when changing over between clients and creating more availability.
